Dr. Jizhong Xiao


"Dr. Jizhong Xiao, (InnovBot Co-founder and senior technical advisor). He is a professor and director of CCNY Robotics Lab... at The city College of New York (CCNY), the flagship campus of City University of New York (CUNY City College). Dr. Xiao has worked on wall-climbing robot projects since 1999, first as his Ph.D. research topic at Michigan State University (MSU), where he designed suction-based wall-climbing robot prototypes named as “Flipper” and “Crawler” at MSU. After he joined the EE Dept. of the CCNY in 2002, he established a robotics research program at CCNY and led his robotics team to continue the pursuit of innovations in wall-climbing robots. He obtained over US$1.7 million research grants from ARO, NSF, DOT and FHWA to develop technologies and software related to wall-climbing robots and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) of civil infrastructure (bridges, tunnels, dams and buildings). He is the inventor of City-Climber, Rise-Rover, GPR-Rover and Wind-Rider robots."
